Like, 20 kids per class small. Mr. Ruderman's room is full of all kinds of student made projects, gifts, and works of art. One wall is dedicated to displaying what he calls a “web of voices” - basically a discussion map. It all looked so different, yet so similar to his old classroom at Breck. Sitting in that empty room, it was clear to see that Adam was just as important to this school’s ecosystem as he was to Breck’s. He makes a real impact on students, everywhere he goes. If I’m completely honest, the forklift was stationary and I really just toggled the lift up and down, but it was definitely a highlight of my experience thus far. The elastic is intended to make it easier for the customer to assemble the exhibit. The task requires you to drill two holes into two metal beams, and then secure an elastic band between them with what I can only describe as something similar to the bolt guns they use in a slaughterhouse. I wouldn’t say I’m qualified for the job. I have no technical skills, no training, and no knowledge of equipment or tools. But, I’m excited to see what working with my uncles and their employees does to change that. I’m freshly twenty years old, and for the first time in my life, I’m on the ground, working a full time job that promises to be physically and mentally demanding. I have no idea what this year will bring, and that might just be the best part.
